Lady Statesmen Softball Falls to Lee in Regular Season Finale

Cleveland, Tenn. — Delta State University’s softball team was defeated by Lee 9-1 in a Gulf South Conference game Saturday afternoon at Butler Field.

The Lady Statesmen (13-37, 7-26 GSC) managed just four hits and was limited offensively. Lee (21-34, 12-21 GSC) scored early and used two big innings to secure the run-rule victory.

Delta State threatened in the first inning as Maeve Lavoy recorded two hits, including a single, but the team failed to capitalize. Lee took a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI double and extended it to 5-0 with four runs in the fourth inning.

The Lady Statesmen responded in the sixth, with Carly Dunigan singling and later scoring on a Calli McConnell RBI double, cutting the deficit to 5-1. Lee answered quickly, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the inning, capped by Addison Emmerson’s three-run homer to center field.

Lavoy (7-14) was credited with the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits over four innings while striking out four. Ellie Cox pitched one inning in relief. McConnell led Delta State at the plate with a double and the team’s only RBI. Dunigan added a hit and scored the team’s lone run.

The Lady Statesmen finished the season 13-37 overall and 7-26 in Gulf South Conference play.
