ELLISVILLE — Jones College and Northwest State Community College advanced to the NJCAA Division II Super Regional after winning their respective regionals last week. The teams will meet May 13-15 at Community Bank Park in Ellisville for an automatic berth to the World Series.

The series will feature a matchup of teams that split in their regular-season finale on April 29-30, both games extending into extra innings. Jones won the opener 3-2 in 11 innings, while Northwest took the second game 6-3 in nine innings at Smith-Wills Stadium.

Jones, seeded fourth, finished 3-0 in the Poplarville Regional. The Bobcats defeated No. 24 Copiah-Lincoln 13-5 in seven innings and beat No. 1 Pearl River twice, 2-1 and 13-0 in five innings. The team has won eight of its last 10 games overall and is 10-2 in the last 12 meetings in Ellisville.

Northwest, seeded sixth, needed extra innings in the regional final to beat East Central Community College. The Raiders defeated No. 21 Itawamba 12-6, topped ECCC 14-5, lost 11-3 to ECCC, then won the decisive game. Their overall record stands at 34-19.

Jones is seeking its first trip to the World Series since winning the national title in 2016. The Rangers have not appeared in the series since 2007. The Super Regional games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with a potential if-necessary game on Friday, time to be determined.
