Jackson State’s Tyree Reed Named SWAC First Team All-Conference
Jackson, Miss. — Jackson State outfielder Tyree Reed has been named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference First Team All-Conference team, the league announced Tuesday. The redshirt junior received the honor following a vote by conference coaches and communication professionals.
Reed ranked in several national statistical categories this season, including within the top 30 in two areas. He was 12th nationally and fourth in the SWAC in on-base percentage at .525. He also ranked 27th nationally and sixth in the conference in batting average at .385. Additionally, Reed was 44th nationally and fifth in the SWAC in bases on balls per game and finished 45th nationally and fifth in the conference in walks.
The outfielder also ranked 46th nationally and second in the conference in runs per game, 55th nationally and second in the SWAC in runs scored, and 124th nationally and fifth in the conference in slugging percentage. He posted a conference-best three home runs in a game against Florida A&M and was named SWAC Newcomer of the Week on April 14.
Reed’s season totals include a team-high .385 batting average with 69 hits in 179 at-bats. He hit .400 in conference play and scored 62 runs while driving in 39. His 23 extra-base hits included 12 doubles, two triples, and nine home runs. He finished with a slugging percentage of .626 and an on-base percentage of .525, drawing 46 walks and striking out just 38 times. Reed was also hit by a pitch 11 times and stole 10 bases in 13 attempts.
