Jackson State Tops Mississippi Valley State on Senior Day, 7-1

ITTA BENA, Miss. — Mississippi Valley State University’s baseball team lost to Jackson State, 7-1, in their final home game of the season. The game was played at Magnolia Field in Itta Bena, with the Diamond Devils honoring their senior student-athletes.

Jackson State improved to 24-24 overall and 14-13 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while Mississippi Valley State dropped to 12-34 overall and 8-19 in conference. The Tigers led the series 70-12 since 2012, maintaining a winning streak of one game.

Camden Farmer pitched the final nine outs, allowing one run and walking none without recording a strikeout. Senior Kendall Brookins reached base three times, including two walks and a single. Senior Jaxon Haynes added a pair of hits in his final game, while Cody Leming drove in the lone run with a fifth-inning single. Senior Tanner Aoki extended his hitting streak to seven games and his on-base streak to 22.

The Tigers scored early and often, with Diego Melendez doubling home Robert Tate Jr. in the first inning. They added three runs in the fourth and two in the seventh, highlighted by RBI singles from Pierre Cabral and Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. Robert Tate Jr. hit a homer in the ninth to cap the scoring, giving Jackson State a 7-1 victory.
