Jackson State QB Jared Lockhart Named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week

Jackson State sophomore quarterback Jared Lockhart has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the conference office on Monday.

Lockhart delivered the best game of his career Saturday night, throwing for 388 yards and four touchdowns in a 66-14 victory over Edward Waters at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. He was named the game’s offensive MVP after helping the Tigers score 38 unanswered points in the first half and amassing 704 yards of total offense in front of 16,726 fans.

The quarterback completed 17 of 25 passes without an interception, averaging more than 22 yards per completion. His four touchdown passes went to four different receivers. Lockhart also added a rushing touchdown, contributing to Jackson State’s dominant performance.

He currently leads the SWAC with 610 passing yards and five touchdowns and ranks eighth in the Football Championship Subdivision with his passing yards. Jackson State is off this week before returning to play Sept. 19 against Tuskegee in the W.C. Gorden Classic.
