Jackson State Players Named to Stats Perform Preseason HBCU Player of the Year Watch List

Jackson, Miss. — Two Jackson State football players were named to the Stats Perform Preseason HBCU National Player of the Year Award Watchlist on Wednesday. Kam Sallis, a first-team All-SWAC defensive back, earned preseason defensive player of the year honors. Quaveon Davis, a first-team All-SWAC offensive lineman, also made the list.

Sallis played all 11 games last season, starting at defensive back. He recorded 53 tackles, including 27 solo stops, and finished with two interceptions and two pass breakups. Sallis also forced two fumbles and had a career-high 12 tackles against Prairie View A&M, including eight solo stops. He was named a Second-Team All-Conference and a semifinalist for the Aeneas Williams Award.

Davis helped Jackson State rank second nationally in rushing offense and second in fourth-down conversion percentage last season. The senior offensive lineman averaged 88 percent grade, recorded 27 pancakes and allowed only 1.5 sacks. Davis was also named a preseason All-American for 2026. He contributed to an offense that finished the regular season ranked 18th nationally in scoring and in the top five in third-down conversion percentage.
