Jackson State mourns former player Levi Wyatt following fatal car crash

Jackson State University is mourning the death of former defensive back Levi Wyatt, who died due to injuries sustained in a car accident, according to the school. Wyatt played one season with the Tigers in 2025, appearing in all 12 games and contributing on defense and special teams.

During his time at Jackson State, Wyatt recorded 12 tackles, including nine solo, and had four pass breakups. The team won the Southwestern Athletic Conference East Division championship that year. Wyatt was 6 feet 2 inches tall and was a senior during his brief stint with the Tigers.

Prior to Jackson State, Wyatt starred at McNeese State, where he was named to the 2024 All-Southland Conference second team and the Phil Steele All-Southland Conference Team. He played 12 games that season, recording 33 tackles, including 23 solo, with two tackles for loss and eight pass breakups. He also played 10 games as a sophomore in 2023 after transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. His high school career began at Vicksburg, Mississippi, before concluding at Holmes County Central High School.

Jackson State issued a statement expressing grief over Wyatt’s passing: “The bond of this brotherhood does not end when the game clock expires. Today, we mourn the loss of our brother, Levi Wyatt. His memory will forever live within the halls of Jackson State football and in the hearts of everyone who shared this journey with him. We ask the Tiger Nation to join us in lifting his family and loved ones in prayer during this incredibly difficult time. Rest easy, Tiger.”
