Hinds Women’s Tennis Qualifies for NJCAA Division II National Championship

RAYMOND, Miss. — The Hinds Community College women’s tennis team earned a berth in the NJCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Championship set for May 2-6 in Sumter, South Carolina, according to school officials.

The Lady Eagles finished the regular season with a 10-7 record. They secured key conference victories and finished the season strong with multiple 9-0 sweeps, demonstrating resilience and growth, the school said.

The championship will be held at the Palmetto Tennis Center and features a unique format designed to test teams’ depth and consistency. The event includes flighted singles and doubles brackets, with main draw and backdraw competition. Main draw matches will be best-of-three sets, with backdraw matches possibly adjusted for weather or scheduling issues, the NJCAA said.

Teams are not paired against regional opponents in the first round, ensuring unfamiliar matchups. Scoring emphasizes success in the main draw, with each victory earning team points—two points for a first-round win and additional points for subsequent wins. Backdraw matches also contribute to the overall team score.

Hinds’ success will depend on balanced play throughout the lineup. Coaches emphasize doubles to set the tone early, with depth in singles often determining how far the team advances. Fans can follow live stats and results via the NJCAA Championship website, as the Lady Eagles aim for their first national title.
