Hinds Track and Field Excels at UAB Invitational, Sets NJCAA Rankings
The Hinds Community College Track and Field teams competed against Division I programs at the UAB Invitational on Saturday, showcasing depth, personal bests, and national rankings across multiple event groups.
The highlight was the women’s 4×400-meter relay team, which finished first with a time of 3:45.08. The team, consisting of Angel Cuberbatch, Akaree Roberts, Queen Usunobun, and Kylie Norbit, moved to No. 1 in the NJCAA national rankings. Their performance ranks among the top relays in the country this season.
Queen Usunobun also impressed individually, winning the women’s 400 meters in 54.62 seconds and maintaining her status as one of the top quarter-milers nationally. The men’s sprint group also excelled, with Curtis Coleman winning the 60 meters in 6.65 seconds, setting a new Vulcan Facility Record. Raheem Pinnock finished second in 6.70 seconds.
Caneilia Hope placed third in the women’s 60 meters in 7.49 seconds, ranking seventh nationally in the NJCAA. In the men’s 200 meters, the team placed four athletes among the top performers. Jayval Wright led with a winning time of 21.22 seconds, ranked ninth nationally. Pinnock ran a personal best of 21.32 seconds, ranking 13th, and Robert Turner clocked 21.37 seconds, ranking 15th.
The men’s 4×400-meter relay team, consisting of Deshuan Gordon, Jayval Wright, Craig Carson, and Robert Turner, finished third in 3:15.38 and now ranks 11th nationally. Hinds Track and Field is scheduled to compete next Saturday at the Samford Bulldog Invitational.
