Hinds Community College 4×100 Relay Sets NJCAA Record, Earns National Honors

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Monday that the Hinds Community College men’s 4×100-meter relay team has been named NJCAA Division I National Athletes of the Week.

The relay team set a new NJCAA record on March 21 at the Belhaven Invitational in Jackson, running the race in 38.23 seconds. The time broke the previous record of 38.86 seconds, which was set in 1987 by Odessa College.

The relay included Raheem Pinnock of Linstead, Jamaica; Jayval Wright of Hayes, Jamaica; Robert Turner of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; and Curtis Coleman of Statesboro, Georgia. Their performance ranks as the fastest 4×100-meter relay in NJCAA history and ties them for No. 10 among all collegiate programs across divisions.

The record-setting run took place on the Mississippi College campus and marked one of the most significant achievements in Hinds men’s track and field history, according to the school.

The USTFCCCA recognition highlights the relay team as the top performers in NJCAA Division I men’s track and field for the week. Hinds is scheduled to compete next at the Belhaven Midweek Open on April 2 at Belhaven University in Jackson.
