Hinds Baseball Qualifies for NJCAA Region 23 Tournament

The Hinds Community College baseball team has secured a spot in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament. The Eagles will open postseason play as the No. 9 seed against No. 8 Southwest Mississippi Community College on Monday, May 4, at 4 p.m. at Dub Herring Park on the campus of Pearl River Community College.

Hinds enters the tournament with a 27-20 overall record and a 13-13 conference mark. The team is part of a highly competitive field in NJCAA Division II baseball. The tournament runs from May 4 to 8 in Poplarville. The champion will advance to the Region 23 Super Regional and continue toward the NJCAA Division II World Series.

Offensively, the Eagles have been one of the most consistent teams in the region. They boast a .315 team batting average, with 446 hits, 65 home runs, and 334 RBIs this season. Several players have contributed significantly, hitting above .300 and producing key hits in crucial moments.

On the mound, Hinds has recorded 328 strikeouts. Multiple pitchers, both starters and relievers, have stepped up to keep the team competitive throughout the season. Defensively, the Eagles have turned 32 double plays and hold a .948 fielding percentage, demonstrating their ability to make plays when it counts.

The team aims to carry momentum into postseason play as it prepares to face Southwest Mississippi in the opening round. The other first-round matchup features No. 4 seed Jones College versus No. 5 seed Copiah-Lincoln at 6 p.m. Pearl River is ranked No. 1 nationally, with Jones at No. 11 and Copiah-Lincoln at No. 24 in the latest NJCAA rankings. The winners will advance to the Region 23 Championship Series, scheduled for May 13-15, hosted by the highest remaining seed.
