Coahoma Track and Field Sets Personal Bests at Joe Walker Invitational
The Coahoma Community College Tigers track and field team achieved personal bests and multiple top-10 finishes at the Joe Walker Invitational, held April 10-11 at Ole Miss. The meet featured athletes from various colleges competing in sprints, jumps, and hurdles.
Nickolas Rogers led the Tigers, setting a personal best in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.77 seconds to finish 10th. He also posted an 11.00-second run in the 100-meter dash, according to team sources. Destiny Lucas contributed for the women’s team, clocking 1:00.45 in the 400 meters and 12.71 seconds in the 100 meters.
In field events, Shacora Jurden finished sixth in the women’s long jump with a mark of 5.58 meters (18 feet, 3.¾ inches). Sanchez Brooks placed ninth in the men’s long jump with a leap of 6.53 meters (21-5¼). The men’s 4×100-meter relay team, composed of Lavoriontaye Willis, Moore LaZarrin, Rogers, and Brooks, finished second with a time of 41.85 seconds.
Additional notable performances included TaMoria Shannon completing the women’s 400-meter hurdles in 1:14.08. On the men’s side, LaZarrin posted times of 11.18 seconds in the 100 meters and 22.92 seconds in the 200 meters. Kewan finished the 400 meters in 54.10 seconds, and Willis ran the 200-meter dash in 22.77 seconds, team officials said.
