Belhaven Track & Field Excels at Belhaven Midweek Open

The Belhaven men’s and women’s track and field teams showcased their talent during the Midweek Open at home, marking their second meet of the season and third overall for 2026, according to school officials.

On the men’s side, the Blazers’ sprint group led the way. Julius Phillips finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 50.93 seconds. Jacob Turner and Donovan Hurst also posted strong times in the same event, recording 54.74 and 57.07 seconds, respectively. Peyton Vandevuss took second in the 800 meters in 2:23.36, while Drew Duckworth won the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:50.66.

Damian Sidelien rebounded to win the 110-meter hurdles in 17.05 seconds. Belhaven dominated the 100-meter dash with four top-five finishes. Kenneth Mills led the group, winning in 11.05 seconds. Leeson Taylor was second in 11.37, with Seth Haynes and Jaheem Cook also placing inside the top five. Taylor added a second-place finish in the 200 meters in 22.96 seconds, followed by Alex Reed in third at 23.15 seconds. Haynes and Cook rounded out the top five.

In field events, Neal Terry posted a standout performance, winning both the long jump (7.14 meters) and triple jump (14.86 meters). Reed finished second in the long jump with a mark of 6.86 meters. Mills also secured a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.88 meters.

The women’s team continued to show progress across multiple events. Yasmyne McCann won the 100 meters in 12.77 seconds and finished second in the 200 meters in 27.90 seconds. She also placed second in the long jump at 4.85 meters. Kimona Haynes remained consistent, winning the 200 meters in 25.32 seconds and the 400 meters in 55.21 seconds, with both times ranking among the program’s top marks.

In hurdles, Brycelyn Townsend claimed victories in both the 100-meter hurdles (16.92 seconds) and 400-meter hurdles (1:14.28). Jocelyn Belonga improved her 1,500 meters time to 6:03.84, finishing second. Destiny Griffin also showed progress in the 800 meters, lowering her time from 3:23.31 to 3:18.19.
