Alcorn Tennis Player Griffiths Named to SWAC All-Second Team

NEW ORLEANS — Alcorn State University announced Thursday that freshman Sebastian Griffiths has been named to the All-Southwestern Athletic Conference Second Team for No. 1 singles in men’s tennis.

Griffiths, a native of Neath, Wales, played in 13 matches during the spring season, all at the top singles position. The Dwr Y Felin Comprehensive School graduate compiled a 2-11 record at No. 1 singles and also earned a win in doubles with teammate Matthew Holl.

Against SWAC opponents, Griffiths finished with a 1-1 record. He defeated Southern University’s Lwazi Ngwenya in straight sets in March. Several matches were left unfinished due to team results being decided before the completion of play.

Alcorn men’s tennis earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming SWAC Tennis Championships. The Braves will face No. 3 seed Jackson State at City Park Tennis Center on Friday, April 17, at 5 p.m., according to school officials.
