Alcorn State Visits Jackson State for Three-Game SWAC Series
Jackson, Mississippi — Alcorn State will face Jackson State in a three-game SWAC baseball series at Braddy Field, beginning Saturday at 3 p.m., according to the schools’ schedules.
The series continues Sunday at 1 p.m., with a game Monday TBA. All contests will be streamed live with stats and tickets available through the schools’ websites.
Alcorn is not ranked in this week’s major polls, nor is Jackson State. The Braves are led offensively by Jaylyn Bennett, who is batting .341, and shortstop Asher Friedman, at .303. Keaten Hawk homered twice in the last game against Grambling State, which was his second and third of the season.
Rayfield Adams III has stolen 16 bases in 17 attempts and owns a .428 on-base percentage. He has also drawn 27 walks. Kanious Davis, who serves as an outfielder and pitcher, has 25 walks and 32 runs scored, with a 3-3 record and 27 strikeouts on the mound.
Jackson State, with a 19-23 overall record and a 9-12 SWAC mark, ranks NR in both D1Baseball.com and USA Today Coaches polls. The Tigers are batting .303 with a team ERA of 7.85. Six players are hitting .300 or better, led by Tyree Reed (.371) and Pierre Cabral (.337). Robert Tate Jr. has 60 hits, and Reed leads with eight home runs.
Jackson State’s pitching features Jayden Lopez and Derek Arrocha, each with four wins. Arrocha has 65 strikeouts in 60 innings. Hudson Jr. has reached base safely in 19 consecutive games.
In their last game, Alcorn beat Grambling State 12-11 on Monday. Keaten Hawk homered twice and drove in four runs. Rayfield Adams added three hits and four RBIs. The game featured multiple lead changes, with Yoni Castro earning his first win of the season after four scoreless innings.
