Alcorn Baseball Hosts Prairie View A&M for SWAC Series at McGowan Stadium

Alcorn State University hosts Prairie View A&M in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series starting Friday at Willie E. “Rat” McGowan Stadium in Lorman, Mississippi. The series opens on May 8 at 6 p.m., with games scheduled for May 9 and 10 at the same time. The games will feature live stats and radio broadcasts, according to school officials.

Alcorn enters the weekend with a 9-38 overall record and a 3-21 mark in SWAC play. The Braves are led offensively by Jaylyn Bennett, who is batting .317, and Asher Friedman, at .300. Keaten Hawk has hit three home runs in his last three outings, tying him with Cooper Harris for the team lead with three homers. Hawk and Harris also lead the team with 29 RBIs each.

Defensively, Kanious Davis and Rayfield Adams III have combined for 38 of the team’s 87 stolen bases. Davis holds a 3-4 pitching record with a 7.45 ERA and 34 strikeouts, while freshman Devin Kriley has fanned 39 batters in 40.1 innings this season. Hawk has reached base in 23 consecutive games, and Adams in 15 straight.

Prairie View A&M comes into the series with a 10-36 record overall and a 6-18 mark in SWAC play. Led by first-year head coach Daniel Dulin, the Panthers are batting .270 as a team and have a team ERA of 10.22. Ryland Duson leads PVAMU with a .371 batting average and seven home runs. Ethan Walker and Basilio Williams are the top base stealers, with 17 and 12 steals, respectively.

In their last game, Alcorn lost 6-2 at Jackson State on May 6. Hawk hit his third home run of the week, but Jackson State responded with a three-run seventh inning to seal the victory. Alcorn starter Kanious Davis pitched six solid innings but took the loss, falling to 3-4. Jackson State’s Derek Arrocha earned the win, improving to 4-4.
