Basketball season is right around the corner so that means we take a look at where things stands headed in to the 2020-20201 season.
Like most things, but especially this season, continuity matters. Our rankings reflect that.
These are forward looking projections but we looked back on last season and what each team is returning to make a determination on how the season might go.
Here are our 2A MHSAA girls basketball preseason rankings.
Top 5 2A girls preseaon
5.) East Marion- Returns four top scorers from a season ago on team that made it to 2nd round of playoffs. Destiny Brown is top returning scorer at nearly 14 ppg.
4.) West Lincoln- Returns 3 of top 4 scorers from team that finished in the quarterfinals of state playoffs. Kara Beth Addison and Brittany Sturkey both made honorable mention all state last season.
3.) Walnut- Return one of states most productive duos in Claire Leak and MK Vuncannon. Pair averaged 35/15 for team that made it to quarterfinals of state playoffs.
2.) New Site- Lady Royals went 32-2 a season ago and made quarterfinals of playoffs. Return top 4 leading scorers. Senior laden team this season that has multiple years of starting experience. Hannah Campbell, Ivy Loden and Saydee Taylor one of best backcourts in state.
1.) Calhoun City- The Lady Wildcats are the returning champs and despite losing multiple pieces, they will still be a force this season. Coach Fox and his squad rolled through the playoffs winning each game by double digits. CC will be led by Senior Forward Jaquasia Bailey.
