MAIS sports cancelled beginning Monday, to be reviewed week by week
MAIS sports and activities will be cancelled beginning Monday and they will be reviewed on a week by week basis.
From the MAIS press release:
The Midsouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) is closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in our region. The health and safety of all MAIS students and personnel remain our top priority.
The situation remains fluid and MAIS guidance/requirements are subject to change in response to new information and recommendations. We continue to monitor information coming from the Mississippi Department of Health, the Institution of Higher Learning, the Mississippi Department of Education, and the Mississippi High School Activities Association, as well as corresponding agencies in neighboring states as we develop our plans for the coming weeks and months.
Our goal is to mitigate the risks posed by the coronavirus while maintaining the quality and integrity of our instructional and athletic programs. Based on the latest developments of the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, it is the recommendation of the MAIS that schools close beginning Monday, March 16 for one week. Beginning Monday, March 23, the MAIS will utilize a week-to-week approach when considering additional school closures.
Beginning Monday, March 16, all MAIS Activities and Athletic events will be canceled and reconsidered on a week-to-week basis. The MAIS will re-evaluate this fluid situation and will provide updates as new information becomes available. This guidance is in accordance with other states in our region. Waivers will be granted to schools taking this course of action
