Ole Miss Hosts Charlotte in Season Opener at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium

OXFORD, Miss. — The University of Mississippi football team returns home Saturday to face Charlotte in the first-ever matchup between the two programs. The game is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

The Rebels, ranked No. 9 nationally, opened their season with a 41-38 victory over No. 24 Louisville. They look to carry that momentum against the 49ers, who are 0-1 after a triple-overtime loss to The Citadel last Saturday.

Charlotte, led by first-year coach Tim Albin, struggled last season with a 1-11 record. Their only win came in week three against Monmouth. The team finished with an offense averaging 14.3 points per game and a defense allowing 36.3 points per game. The 49ers faced a tough schedule, including losses to ranked teams Georgia and Tulane.

Ole Miss features key players such as quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns against Louisville, and wide receiver Deuce Alexander, who had five receptions for 159 yards and two TDs last week. The offensive line also contributed to a sack-free game in the season opener.

Charlotte will rely on quarterback Cole Gonzales, who threw for 322 yards and three touchdowns in their opener, and running back Khamani Alexander, who carried 14 times for 138 yards and a touchdown. Defensive back Collin Gill also made a career-high 11 tackles in their last game.
