Ole Miss Focuses on Improvement Ahead of Home Game Against Charlotte
OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss football team is preparing for its home opener against Charlotte after a 41-38 victory over No. 24 Louisville in Nashville, according to head coach Pete Golding.
Golding, alongside players Caleb Odom, Kam Franklin, and Patrick Kutas, discussed the team’s performance and areas for improvement this week. He described the Louisville game as a tale of two halves and stressed the need for better consistency, citing missed coverages and 19 missed tackles as issues that cannot persist.
“When you bust coverages and miss 19 tackles and you get 240 yards after contact, you’re not going to have an opportunity to win many games,” Golding said. Despite the win, he highlighted the importance of cleaning up mistakes as the schedule gets tougher.
Kutas praised the offensive line’s physical play and credited backup right tackle Connor Howes for stepping in seamlessly after an injury. He emphasized the importance of communication and staying calm under pressure.
Golding emphasized that this week’s focus remains on execution, tackling, and ball security, regardless of the opponent. Franklin echoed this sentiment, stating the defense is focused solely on Charlotte and plans to dominate.
Wide receiver Caleb Odom noted a key third-down catch during the Louisville game, which he predicted would be part of their two-minute drill since spring. He also highlighted the explosive plays of Deuce Alexander, who caught five passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns, adding that improved vision after switching to contacts has helped his performance.
