Ole Miss Cross Country Places Eighth at Gans Creek Classic

The University of Mississippi cross country teams competed Friday at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Missouri. The event featured over 250 runners in the men’s and women’s 6K and 8K races, representing nearly 30 collegiate programs.

In the women’s 6K Gold Invitational, junior Alicia Finnis led Ole Miss with a 26th-place finish, clocking 20 minutes, 18.4 seconds. Sophomore Addy Mitchell finished 37th in 20:29.1, followed by Adie Luna in 42nd in 20:34.8. Brooke Preputnick and Zoe Marsh rounded out the scoring for the Rebels, finishing 57th and 101st with times of 20:46.3 and 21:15.4, respectively. Ole Miss totaled 261 points to place eighth among 29 schools.

On the men’s side, the 8K Invitational saw Kidus Misgina finish fourth overall in 22:42.6. Zack Gilbertson was 25th in 23:24.5, with teammates John Shoemaker, Owen Kelley, and Ky Hehir finishing 50th, 60th, and 67th. The Rebels scored enough to earn fifth place out of 30 teams. Other Ole Miss runners included Samuel Ferguson, Travis Furmanski, Luke Hurley, Aidan Hodge, and Sean Donoghue, with times ranging from 23:51.5 to 25:01.3.

The day concluded with the women’s 6K Black Open race, where Hannah Doyle finished 19th in 22:08.2. Shannon Zugelder and Dearbhla Allen finished 25th and 40th, with times of 22:15.7 and 22:43.4.

The Ole Miss teams will next compete at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin, on October 9. The women will compete at Pre Nationals in Terre Haute, Indiana, on October 16, according to school officials.
