Ole Miss Coach Pete Golding Named Bear Bryant Award’s National Coach of the Week

Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding was named the Bear Bryant Awards National Coach of the Week, following his team’s 32-24 win over LSU on Saturday. The victory marked the Rebels’ first win over a top-10 opponent this season.

The game took place at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi, with ESPN’s College Gameday on site. Ole Miss took an early lead with a field goal, and Kewan Lacy scored a touchdown to put the Rebels ahead 10-0 in the first quarter. Trinidad Chambliss added three touchdowns, including a rushing score late in the game that sealed the victory.

The Rebels’ defense held strong in the final minutes, including a crucial fourth-and-goal stop that prevented LSU from tying the game. Ole Miss’s defense tipped a pass to Jaylon Braxton, who intercepted it in the end zone to secure the win. The game drew a record crowd of 70,033 fans at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Golding, in his first full season coaching Ole Miss, improved to 3-0 with wins over Louisville, Charlotte, and LSU. The team has recently climbed to No. 4 in the AP Poll and will face No. 21 Florida in Gainesville next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
