Mississippi State Women’s Golf Opens Mason Rudolph Championship with Even Par

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Mississippi State women’s golf opened the Mason Rudolph Championship with an even-par 284 in the first round Friday, placing them in fifth position among a competitive field. The Bulldogs are six strokes behind leader Florida, which shot 6-under par across the 18 holes, according to the tournament’s leaderboard.

Samantha Whateley led the Bulldogs with a 70, one stroke under par, marking her second under-par round this season. Alicia Bellendir also shot a 70, tying Whateley for 12th place and extending her streak of opening rounds under par in her collegiate career.

Alona Avery, competing in her first tournament for Mississippi State, finished with an even-par 71. The junior from Riverside, California, has now recorded three consecutive even-par rounds dating back to last season and is tied for 20th entering Saturday’s action.

Also competing for the Bulldogs were Avery Weed and Moa Stridh, both with rounds of 73, which are two-over par. They are tied for 36th place, along with Avery, as the team aims to climb the leaderboard Saturday. Mississippi State will tee off at 9:20 a.m. alongside Arizona State and Louisville.
