Foot’s Bay, Ontario — Mississippi State men’s golf is participating in the Canadian Collegiate Invitational, its first international tournament in program history. The event is co-hosted by Penn State and Kent State and organized by Golf Canada.
Head coach Dusty Smith expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity. “We are looking forward to a unique experience up in Canada,” he said. “Playing in different environments helps us learn about ourselves and adapt to new courses. Our focus remains on the process and maintaining concentration throughout the event.”
The tournament is being held at Öviinbyrd Golf Club, featuring a par-72 course stretching 7,147 yards. The Bulldogs will play 18 holes each day from Sept. 13 through Sept. 15.
Mississippi State’s lineup includes freshman Yago Horno, who tied for fourth at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate with a 7-under total of 203. Horno opened with a 3-under 67 and finished with two 68s. Sophomore Arth Sinha, junior Gavin Isbell, and freshman Finn Burkholder also compete for the Bulldogs. Burkholder is making his first appearance in the lineup as a true freshman.
Additional team members include Bryson Hughes and Ben Kelling, who provide depth for the squad. The Bulldogs aim to gain valuable experience in their first international outing, with remaining rounds scheduled through Tuesday.
