Mississippi Valley State Faces Lincoln (PA) at Soldier Field in Chicago Football Classic
Mississippi Valley State University football team is heading to Chicago this weekend to face Lincoln University (Pennsylvania) at Soldier Field. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. Central Time, according to the school.
The Delta Devils are looking for their first win of the 2026 season after opening with road games against Nicholls and Sacramento State. The matchup offers an opportunity for the team to build on early-season experience and showcase HBCU football on a prominent stage.
Offensive consistency will be a focus for MVSU, which is averaging 126.5 rushing yards per game. Dezmond Ray leads the rushing attack with 85 yards on 13 carries, including a 30-yard run. Josh Brown has added 79 yards on 12 attempts, and Norman Taylor has contributed 57 yards on 12 carries. Brown has completed 17 passes for 63 yards, while Jordon Davis has connected on four passes for 59 yards.
Jaylen King leads the team with six receptions for 32 yards, and Nicholas Buggs has a team-high 37 receiving yards on two catches, including a 35-yard play—the team’s longest passing attempt of the season. Jackson Hampton has added an 18-yard reception, providing another target for the offense.
Defensively, Mississippi Valley State has recorded three interceptions and a fumble recovery through two games. Tyrell Johnson’s 95-yard interception return for a touchdown is the unit’s most notable scoring play. Other players with interceptions include Jamari Stokes and Joey Davis. Leading tacklers are Malek Jackson and Joel Queisser with 12 each, followed by Will Hawkins with 10. Javieane Stevens has been a disruptive force with 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.
For the Delta Devils, key areas for improvement include protecting the football, limiting penalties, and improving third-down efficiency. The team has converted five of 27 third-down attempts this season. Success in these areas could prove vital in Saturday’s game against Lincoln.
