Senatobia, Miss. — The Northwest Mississippi Community College women’s soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to No. 4 Holmes Community College at the Ranger Soccer Complex. It was their second straight defeat, after falling to No. 2 Jones College on Tuesday, according to school officials.
Holmes dominated early, threatening the Northwest defense repeatedly. The Bulldogs scored their first goal in the sixth minute when forward Kayla Jones redirected a shot into the net. The Rangers’ backline was shuffled due to an injury to Lena Scholze, but held firm until the 66th minute, when Bella Jordan scored from a sharp angle on the right side to extend Holmes’ lead.
Northwest, typically more offensive, recorded only nine shots compared to Holmes’ 31 and was outshot significantly in corner kicks, 12 to 2. Freshman goalkeeper Lydia Knabb made nine saves, nearly doubling her season total, and was a standout for the Rangers in the defeat.
