Northwest Mississippi Football Dominates Coahoma in Homecoming Win

Senatobia, Miss. — The seventh-ranked Northwest Mississippi Community College football team posted a 45-7 victory over Coahoma Community College on Saturday at Bobby Franklin Field. The win marked the Rangers’ third consecutive victory and their highest-scoring game of the season, helping celebrate homecoming in front of a packed crowd, according to team sources.

Northwest opened the game with a strong defensive stand, forcing a three-and-out on Coahoma’s first drive. The Rangers capitalized with a quick series, with Noah Gillon scoring from five yards out to give Northwest a 7-0 lead. The defense struck again on the Tigers’ next possession, forcing another punt and setting up the offense at their own 35-yard line.

Damian Sisa made a significant impact early, rushing for 65 yards and a touchdown, pushing the lead to 14-0. The Tigers finally gained some momentum with a penalty that moved the chains into Ranger territory, but an interception by Clytravus Lewis halted their drive. Northwest responded with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Gillon to Quincy Phillips Jr., extending their lead to 21-0.

The Rangers’ defense continued to dominate, and Gillon added a second rushing touchdown from 69 yards. Just before halftime, Jovarius Lundy blocked a field goal attempt, which Chase Meeking returned 67 yards for a touchdown as time expired, giving Northwest a 35-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw Northwest extend their advantage with a 24-yard field goal from Will Uselton and a long kickoff return for a touchdown by Sisa. Coahoma finally crossed the goal line late in the game, but the Rangers responded with another special teams score, a 98-yard kickoff return by Sisa. Northwest finished with a commanding 45-7 victory, improving to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Offensively, Gillon completed 13 of 17 passes for 72 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 69 yards. Fann, before his injury, contributed 59 yards passing. Nine players combined for 187 rushing yards, with Macaleb Taylor leading with 26 yards. Sisa led receivers with three catches for 66 yards, including a touchdown. Defensively, Lewis led with six total tackles and an interception. Special teams played a key role, with Sisa and Meeking returning kicks for touchdowns.

The Rangers will travel next week to face Holmes Community College, which is 1-5 overall and 1-1 in league play. Northwest remains tied atop the MACCC North Division with a 3-0 record, as Hill’s team looks to continue their winning streak.
