Hinds Football Dominates Mississippi Delta 48-21 in Moorhead
MOORHEAD, Miss. — Hinds Community College’s football team rallied in the second half to beat Mississippi Delta Community College 48-21 Thursday night at Jim Randall Stadium. The Eagles improved to 4-2 this season.
The Trojans led 7-3 after the first quarter before Hinds took control in the second. The Eagles scored three rushing touchdowns in the quarter, all from Makari Bodiford, giving them a 17-14 lead at halftime.
Bodiford continued his strong performance in the second half, scoring two more rushing touchdowns early and later in the third quarter. Hinds extended its lead to 31-21 entering the final quarter. The Eagles added 17 points in the fourth, including a 23-yard field goal from Braylenn Spann and two touchdown passes from Jamarcus Pittman to Peyton Johnson, sealing the victory.
Hinds finished with 391 yards of total offense, including 202 passing yards and 189 rushing yards. Jaylon Ruffin completed 13 of 21 passes for 192 yards and rushed for 59 yards. Bodiford led the ground attack with 66 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns. De’Traun Brown caught four passes for 43 yards, and other receivers contributed as well.
Special teams made a significant impact, with Anthony Loftin returning two kickoffs for 121 yards, including a 99-yard touchdown. Spann was perfect on extra points and field goals, going 2-for-3 on field goals and 6-for-6 on extra points. Wyatt Long averaged 44.3 yards per punt on three attempts.
Defensively, Hinds limited Mississippi Delta to 279 yards of total offense, with just 82 rushing yards. Floyd Harris led the defense with nine tackles, while Zachariah Smith recorded three sacks for 14 yards and the team totaled seven sacks overall. The Eagles also forced a fumble and recorded an interception.
