Nicole Galvan Sets Southwest Women’s Soccer Points Record with Four Goals, Two Assists

Southwest Women’s Soccer hosted UA Cossatot on Saturday, September 12, in their first home game of the season. Zoey Brown opened the scoring early for the Lady Bears, and Southwest led 3-0 at halftime after goals from Galvan and Cori Bergeron.

Despite strong defense from Cossatot, the Colts scored to make it 3-1 early in the second half. Nicole Galvan re-entered the match and scored three consecutive goals within 10 minutes, extending Southwest’s lead to 6-1. Brown added her second goal of the match later, finalizing the score at 7-1.

Galvan finished the game with four goals and two assists, totaling 10 points — the highest single-game performance in program history. Brown contributed two goals and an assist, while Bergeron added one goal and one assist. Several players, including Wesley Porter, Sophia Mitchell, and Aubrey Allison, also recorded assists. Addison Champagne played all 90 minutes in goal, making seven saves and allowing just one goal.

The victory improved Southwest’s record to 3-2-1. Galvan leads the team this season with seven goals and three assists and is closing in on the program scoring record, with 19 goals with 11 games remaining, according to head coach Nicole Cooper.

“Nicole consistently shows up in big ways,” Cooper said. “She’s at the forefront of our attack this season and has helped create an explosive offense. She’s also a great role model for our underclassmen.”

Cooper added that the win boosted team confidence ahead of upcoming ranked matchups against Pearl River and Northwest. The Lady Bears are set to face No. 10 Pearl River on Tuesday, September 15, in Poplarville.
