Jones College men earn 2025-26 Halbrook Award

Jones College won the community college men’s division of the 2025-26 David M. Halbrook Award for Academic Achievement Among Athletes, with all 45 of its male student-athletes recognized.

The awards honor student-athletes for achievement in academics, leadership and service. The men’s and women’s traveling trophies go to colleges and universities with the highest percentage of academic achievement in their respective divisions.

Other division recipients were Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the community college women’s division; Mississippi Christian University in both independent college and university divisions; and the University of Southern Mississippi in both public university divisions.

Coahoma Community College received the John C. and Ernestine McCall Halbrook Improvement Award, a cash award for the institution with the largest year-over-year increase in the percentage of athletes graduating.

Jones selected women’s basketball player Larissa Hubbard and men’s soccer player Tripp Alexander for individual recognition. Executive Vice President Joel Cain said the award reflects the college’s focus on academic success and athletic achievement. He credited academic advisers, coaches, instructors and student-athletes.

The awards were announced at the annual Ascent to 55% Convening. The Halbrook program was established in 1984 through House Concurrent Resolution No. 88 and is funded by endowments from David M. Halbrook and his brothers in honor of their parents.
