Coahoma Football Hosts Itawamba in Key MACCC North Clash
CLARKSDALE, Miss. — Coahoma Community College’s football team hosts Itawamba Community College on Thursday at James E. Miller Stadium in a MACCC North Division game scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The Tigers, 0-4 overall and 0-1 in division play, are seeking their first victory after a narrow 36-33 loss to Holmes Community College on the road. Despite the defeat, Coahoma showcased a strong ground game, rushing for 304 yards. Running back Issac Day led the effort with 184 yards and an 83-yard touchdown run. Prentavis Madison added 117 rushing yards, and quarterback Jacob Clopton scored two rushing touchdowns, according to school officials.
Itawamba, 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the division, enters the game riding momentum after a 31-0 win over Northeast Mississippi Community College last week. The Indians’ offense totaled 303 yards, led by quarterback Brayden Trusty, who completed 22 of 26 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns. Trusty’s top receivers included Ashton Blanchard and Caleb Groce, who posted 59 and 52 yards receiving, respectively, officials said.
The game features a matchup of strengths, with Coahoma’s offensive line facing a tough Itawamba defensive front that recorded seven sacks and nine tackles for loss in its last game. Defensive lineman Allen Dobbs led that effort with two sacks, according to team reports. On defense, Coahoma aims to pressure Trusty and disrupt the Indians’ passing game after recording three sacks and six tackles for loss against Holmes.
School officials encouraged Tiger fans to fill the stands, wear maroon, and cheer loudly as Coahoma strives for a critical division win under Thursday night lights.
Founded in 1949, Coahoma Community College is a public, historically Black college serving the Mississippi Delta. Located on a 99-acre campus in Clarksdale, the college offers associate degrees, certificates, and transfer programs. It is known for its programs in nursing, health sciences, and career-technical education, as well as its involvement in NJCAA athletics and student organizations, including the college choir and Marching Maroon Typhoon.
