GOODMAN, Miss. — The Coahoma Community College Tigers suffered a 36-33 loss to Holmes Community College on Thursday night at Ras Branch Stadium. The Tigers led by 12 points in the fourth quarter but surrendered a late touchdown to the Bulldogs.
Coahoma opened the scoring with an eight-play, 77-yard drive, capped by quarterback Jacob Clopton’s one-yard run. Andrew Harrison’s extra point gave the Tigers an early 6-0 lead. Holmes responded with two touchdowns late in the first quarter, taking a 14-6 lead before Isaac Day’s 83-yard touchdown run pulled Coahoma within 14-13 at the end of the period.
The Tigers regained the lead in the second quarter after Harrison’s 40-yard field goal. Holmes answered with a 13-yard touchdown pass from George Wilcox to Tyran Mosley. Clopton connected with Jaden Moses for a five-yard score before halftime, giving Coahoma a 23-21 advantage heading into the break.
In the third quarter, Clopton scored his second rushing touchdown, an 11-yard run, extending the Tigers’ lead to 30-21. Coahoma added a 31-yard field goal early in the fourth, making it 33-21. Holmes then rallied, scoring on a two-yard run by Tristan Colenberg and a seven-yard touchdown from RJ Evans II. A two-point conversion put Holmes ahead 36-33 with 2:24 remaining.
The Tigers’ offense was unable to respond in the final minutes. Holmes held on for the victory. Coahoma finished with 304 rushing yards, led by Day’s 184 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Prentavis Madison added 117 yards on 15 carries. Clopton rushed for 12 yards and two scores, and completed eight of 18 passes for 67 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
Defensively, the Tigers recorded 74 tackles, three sacks, and six tackles for loss. Key contributors included Deshaun Brooks and Xaylen Henderson with six tackles each. Henderson also had a pass breakup. The loss drops Coahoma to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Tigers will host Itawamba Community College on September 24 at 6:30 p.m.
