Spalding beats William Carey women’s soccer 6-0 in SLIAC opener

COLOMBUS, Miss. — The William Carey women’s soccer team lost its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opener, 6-0, to Spalding at the Roger Short Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls are now 0-6-0 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play. The Golden Eagles improved to 3-4-1 overall and 1-0-0 in SLIAC games.

In the first half, William Carey kept the match scoreless for the first 42 minutes and 30 seconds. Spalding scored the only goal of the first half. The Golden Eagles then dominated the second half, scoring five unanswered goals to secure the victory. The first of those came at 48:50, and within 30 minutes, the visitors had built a 6-0 lead.

The Owls managed three shots on goal during the match. Emma Hall recorded two shots on goal, while Layla Escobedo had the other. William Carey goalkeeper Cam Lopez faced 13 shots on frame and made seven saves.

The team will continue conference play Thursday at Eureka College, with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m.
