Mississippi State Sweeps Alcorn in Three-Set Volleyball Match

Memphis — Alcorn State’s volleyball team lost to Mississippi State in three sets during the second day of the Classic on Friday. The Lady Braves, who are 0-8 this season, put up a strong fight but ultimately fell to the Bulldogs.

Crystistin Webb led Alcorn with a season-high 10 kills and finished with a .304 hitting percentage. Rylan Jones added nine kills and three digs, while Courtney Carter recorded eight kills and 10 digs, both season highs.

Mississippi State took the opening set 28-8. The Lady Braves stayed close early, trailing 6-3, but the Bulldogs used a strong run to pull away. Jones and Webb each recorded kills in the set, with Daylin Saiki providing assists on both.

In the second set, Mississippi State won 25-19. Alcorn showed more offensive resilience, staying within striking distance until the Bulldogs finished on a 5-2 run to claim the set. The third set saw Mississippi State close out the match with a 25-16 victory, though Alcorn fought until the end. The Lady Braves tied the set at 15-15 after a Webb kill, but Mississippi State responded with a 6-1 run to seal the win.

Notable individual performances included Carter’s 10 digs, a season high, and Tomoni Giddings’ 13 digs. The Lady Braves finished with seven team blocks, and Saiki contributed 23 assists. Alcorn is set to face Boston College on Friday, Sept. 12, at noon.
