Mississippi Christian Men’s Soccer Hosts No. 4 AUM in GSC Showdown

Clinton, Miss. — The Mississippi Christian men’s soccer team will host No. 4 Auburn University at Montgomery on Saturday at noon in a Gulf South Conference matchup at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.

AUM enters the game with an 8-1 record and a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play. The Warhawks are ranked No. 4 nationally, the highest in program history, and have scored 15 goals while allowing only six this season. Their defense has recorded five shutouts through nine matches.

The Warhawks are on a five-match winning streak and have not lost since Sept. 6. Goalkeeper Jakob Buhrkuhl has allowed just four goals in six appearances and owns an .833 save percentage. He has also recorded four shutouts. AUM has won several close matches, often by a single goal.

Mississippi Christian enters Saturday with a 2-4-2 overall record and a 1-2-1 conference mark. The team has scored 15 goals in eight matches, led by Karim Gegg, who has five goals and 11 points. Harry McLean has also scored five goals, and Hayden Mulrooney leads the team with three assists.

Last time out, the Choctaws lost 2-1 at Lee on Sept. 26. They previously earned their first conference victory with a 3-1 win over Union and played Christian Brothers to a 2-2 draw. The team faces a stiff challenge against AUM’s stingy defense, which has allowed only six goals all season.

Saturday’s game provides Mississippi Christian an opportunity to challenge one of the top Division II teams nationally on its home field. The Choctaws will look to create scoring opportunities early and defend aggressively against the Warhawks.

Kickoff is scheduled for noon Saturday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field in Clinton.
