Montgomery, Alabama — Alcorn State’s women’s soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with Alabama State on Sunday in the SWAC opener for both teams.
The Lady Braves (3-4-2, 0-0-1 SWAC) generated five shots and three corner kicks in the first half, with Elie Larissa Joso Luma and others creating scoring opportunities. Alabama State (0-7-2, 0-0-1 SWAC) finished the half with three shots and one corner kick, and Renata Da Rosa made one save for Alcorn.
In the second half, Alcorn increased its offensive pressure, recording 11 shots and four corner kicks. Grace Ambrose had multiple chances, including a shot off the right post in the 61st minute. Leyla Llanos Boursiquot hit the crossbar in the 64th minute, and Bernita Baafi also struck the crossbar in the 74th minute.
The match remained scoreless through regulation. The Lady Braves will return home to Key City Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi, on Friday, Oct. 2, to host Grambling State in SWAC action. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT in Alcorn State’s home opener.
