Belhaven Volleyball’s Maggie Joy Tomlin Named CCS Setter of the Week
JACKSON, Miss. — Belhaven University sophomore Maggie Joy Tomlin has been named the Collegiate Conference of the South Setter of the Week, the school announced Monday. Tomlin led the Blazers’ offense during the opening week of play, recording 132 assists in five matches, with an average of 7.76 assists per set, the top mark in the CCS.
The Watkinsville, Georgia, native posted at least 20 assists in each match. She opened the season with 25 assists against Millsaps College and matched that total against Concordia Texas. Her season-high came against Austin College, when she dished out 31 assists.
Tomlin also contributed on defense, tallying 45 digs and two double-doubles during the week. In addition to her assists, she recorded 13 digs against Paul Quinn College and added 24 assists and seven service aces in the final match of the weekend against Dallas College. Five of those aces occurred during a seven-point service run that helped Belhaven win the second set, 25-14.
The Blazers are scheduled to return to Rugg Arena on Friday for matches against LeTourneau University at 3 p.m. and Centenary College at 7 p.m. They will also host Principia College at noon Saturday.
