The Alcorn State women’s soccer team earned a 4-1 victory over Jacksonville State on Thursday, improving their record to 3-3. Grace Ambrose scored two goals in the first seven minutes, helping the Lady Braves build an early lead, according to team sources.
Elive Larissa Joso Luma and Leyla Llanos Boursiquot also scored in the game. The team prepares to face Troy on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the Troy Soccer Complex in Troy, Alabama. The series between Alcorn and Troy stands at 3-0 in favor of the Trojans, with the last matchup taking place in 2011.
Ambrose was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week for September 8-14, while teammate Sophia Bobie earned SWAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Last year, Troy defeated Alcorn 3-1 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Michelle Lesmes Diaz scored Alcorn’s only goal in the 27th minute, assisted by Iesha Rollins.
The Trojans hold a 1-5-1 record this season, with a 1-1-1 mark at home. Notable players include Alaina Uncapher, with two goals and an assist; Madisyn Marchesi, with two goals and a game-winning goal; Brooke Slater, leading with three assists; and Taylor Richards, with 33 saves and a .688 save percentage, according to team stats.
