Plumlee sets rushing record as Ole Miss trounces New Mexico State
John Rhys Plumlee entered Saturday’s contest against New Mexico State as the most prolific freshman quarterback rushing the football in Ole Miss history.
My the time Saturday was over, he was the most prolific freshman rusher in Ole Miss history, period.
On the first play from scrimmage, Plumlee took off for a 14 yard which gave him the rushing record and set the tone for the Rebel offensive attack in their 41-3 victory over New Mexico State.
Ole Miss (4-6) kept their bowl eligibility hopes alive with their first victory since October 5th.
Plumlee accounted for 177 rushing yards and a pair of scores, setting the freshman mark for rushing touchdowns previously held by Joe Gunn. He also threw for 124 yards.
“He took advantage and made some plays,” Ole Miss said of his dynamic freshman quarterback.
The Rebel offense would rush for 447 yards on the day, getting 109 yards and a pair of touchdowns from freshman Snoop Connor. Fellow freshman Jerrion Ealy would rush for 71 yards and a score for his 5th touchdown of the season.
The Ole Miss defense held the Aggies of NMSU to just 197 total yards while picking up four sacks.
Ole Miss is in action next Saturday against LSU, who will presumably enter the game as the #1 team in the nation after knocking off Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Kickoff is set for 6 pm.
