William Carey Volleyball Splits Final Day at Carlos Soler Invitational

Marietta, Georgia — The William Carey volleyball team completed play at the Carlos Soler ‘La Tribu’ Invitational, hosted by Life University, on Saturday. The Lady Crusaders lost a five-set match to Webber International before defeating Point University in straight sets.

In the opening match, Carey traded points with Webber International. The Warriors pulled ahead late in the first set to win 25-21. Carey kept the score close but couldn’t overcome a 4-0 run by Webber to close the set.

The Lady Crusaders started slow in the second set, falling behind 9-3. Rachel Stegall’s five service aces sparked an 8-0 run, giving Carey a 13-11 lead. Webber responded, and the teams battled evenly afterward. Carey led 21-18 but Webber scored the final seven points to win 25-23 and take a 2-0 match lead.

Carey came out aggressive in the third set, building an 11-6 lead. A 7-1 run pushed the Crusaders ahead 18-7. Carey maintained control and won 25-17, extending the match. In the fourth set, Carey led 11-3 early and cruised to a 25-10 victory, forcing a deciding fifth set.

Webber quickly took control of the final set, jumping out to a 9-1 lead. The Warriors maintained their edge and closed the match with a 15-5 win. Later Saturday, Carey faced Point University. The Crusaders responded after an early 7-1 deficit, taking the first set 25-16.

Point started strong in the second set, but Carey battled back from a 12-6 deficit, eventually tying the score at 18-18. After a back-and-forth finish, the Crusaders won 28-26. In the third set, Carey built an early lead, then held off Point to win 25-19 and sweep the match.

William Carey returns to action Aug. 28-29 at the Faulkner Invitational in Montgomery, Alabama.
