ULM Beats Alcorn 6-1 in Women’s Soccer Match
MONROE, La. — Louisiana-Monroe scored four goals in the first half and went on to beat Alcorn State 6-1 in nonconference women’s soccer Sunday at Brown Stadium.
ULM (1-0-1) dominated the opening 45 minutes, with Maria Thania Gealon opening the scoring in the 28th minute. Charli Harris scored twice in quick succession, in the 28th and 41st minutes, to give the Warhawks a commanding lead. Giulia Franco added a goal in the 37th minute, and Angela Moreno scored just after halftime to extend ULM’s lead to 5-0.
Alcorn State (0-2-0) scored its lone goal in the 87th minute when Grace Ambrose found the net unassisted. The Braves attempted to respond, recording five shots in the second half and pressing despite the large deficit. Annick Zouma led the team with three shots, all on target, and was issued a yellow card in the 72nd minute.
ULM’s Jen Handy earned the win in net, making two saves in 61 minutes before Maria Heuman relieved her to make two more stops. Alcorn goalkeeper Renata Da Rosa faced six shots and allowed six goals in 61 minutes. Bailey Perales replaced Da Rosa and made a key save in the 71st minute.
The Warhawks held a slight edge in possession at 51%, while controlling the offside calls 6-0. Harris led all scorers with two goals on four shots, and Gealon contributed to the offensive pressure. ULM returns to action Thursday against Nicholls State in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
