Stephen F. Austin Tops Alcorn 16-8 in Nonconference Baseball Game
Stephen F. Austin defeated Alcorn 16-8 in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday afternoon at Pilgrim’s Park in Nacogdoches, Texas.
The Lumberjacks jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the first inning. Evan Aslaksen, the team’s first baseman, hit a 411-foot three-run home run to left field, capping the opening frame. Julian Swift added a solo homer in the second inning and drove in three runs on a double in the fourth, extending SFA’s lead to 13-3.
Aslaksen finished with three RBIs, and Ethan Adkisson went 4-for-5 with an RBI. Cermodrick Bland scored twice and added two hits. The Lumberjacks collected 14 hits and drew 11 walks, applying constant pressure on Alcorn’s pitching staff, which struggled with command throughout the game.
Myles Dews started for Alcorn and was pulled after three innings, allowing seven runs on six hits with six walks. The Braves’ bullpen allowed six more runs in the fourth inning. Alcorn scored five runs in the fifth, highlighted by Nico Garcia’s two-run double and efforts from Ethan Peña, Rayfield Adams III, and Asher Friedman. Garcia finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Stephen F. Austin responded with three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win. Hayden Tronson pitched four innings for SFA, allowing three earned runs, while Jonathan Valdez earned the win in relief with two scoreless innings. Dews was charged with the loss, his second of the season.
Alcorn prepares to return to Southwestern Athletic Conference play this weekend, starting with a series against Southern Louisiana in Lorman, Mississippi, beginning Friday at 6 p.m., according to the school’s athletics department.
