Games To Watch: Louisville visits unbeaten Kosciusko; Tupelo opens district play

Kosciusko has protected a perfect record through six games. Friday brings a different measure of that start: a home district meeting with Louisville, with both teams arriving 1-0 in league play. That matchup leads our October 9, 2026 Games To Watch selection, alongside unbeaten Tupelo’s district opener at Southaven. All five selected football games are scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT.

Louisville at Kosciusko: unbeaten start meets a district test

The Whippets enter 6-0, while the visiting Wildcats are 4-2. The overall records favor Kosciusko, but the district records put them on equal footing. Each already has a league victory; their meeting offers an early chance to separate from a fellow district winner. Kosciusko’s perfect start and Louisville’s opportunity to disrupt it give this game stakes beyond the overall standings.

Tupelo at Southaven: a perfect record enters league play

Tupelo takes a 6-0 record to Southaven, which enters 1-3. Both teams are 0-0 in district play, making this the point where the Golden Wave’s unbeaten start begins to carry league consequences. Southaven’s difficult overall start has yet to cost it a district game; Tupelo’s six victories have yet to give it a league advantage. Our previous Friday-night reporting provides more background on the Golden Wave’s season.

Germantown at Starkville: a district opener after a setback

Starkville enters 4-1 after a 38-31 loss to Brandon on September 25. The Yellowjackets now welcome a 3-2 Germantown team from Madison, with both teams starting district play at 0-0. Starkville’s first league test therefore doubles as an opportunity to respond to that defeat, while Germantown opens its district schedule against a host that has lost only once.

Non-district tests for Ripley and Walnut

Ripley travels to New Albany at 1-5, carrying a five-game losing streak that includes a 22-10 defeat to Clarksdale on October 2. The 3-2 Bulldogs give the Tigers another opponent with a winning record. This meeting is non-district: Ripley’s immediate task is to interrupt that slide, rather than change its league standing.

Walnut, meanwhile, hosts Biggersville after beating Ashland 36-14 on October 2. That victory left the Wildcats at 3-3 entering this non-district matchup against the 1-5 Lions. Walnut can build on a winning result at home, while Biggersville arrives looking to improve a difficult overall start.
