Southern Miss Promotes Two Graduate Assistants to Assistant Coach and Video Coordinator

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss men’s basketball coach Jay Ladner has announced the promotion of two staff members ahead of the 2026-27 season. George Brocato will serve as an assistant coach and director of player personnel, while Michael Legre will be the team’s new video coordinator, the university said in a release.

Brocato and Legre were graduate assistants during the 2025-26 season. The Golden Eagles posted a 19-win season and reached the Sun Belt Tournament semifinals before falling to Troy.

Brocato, a native of St. Cloud, Florida, joined Southern Miss after two seasons as an assistant coach at St. Cloud High School. There, he helped lead the team to its most wins in program history and a trip to the Sweet 16. He previously played at Fort Scott Community College and Newman University before earning his degree at Central Florida. Brocato expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return to Southern Miss, saying he is focused on building toward a Sun Belt championship.

Legre, who graduated from LSU in 2025, has experience as a basketball scout intern at Draft Dispatch, evaluating NCAA players and providing scouting reports. During his time at LSU, he also worked with NILSU, assisting with market research, personal branding, and game-day activations. Legre is eager to start his new role and contribute to the team’s success, according to the university.

Southern Miss continues to build its coaching staff ahead of the upcoming season, with the university emphasizing its commitment to excellence and competitive success.
