Southern Miss Men’s Golf ties program record with top-three finish at Seminole Intercollegiate
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Southern Miss men’s golf finished second at the Seminole Intercollegiate, marking its third straight runner-up finish this season. Sophomore Matthew Javier shot a 4-under 212 over three rounds, tying the program’s record for six top-three finishes in a season, set during the 2005-2006 campaign under coach Steve Johnson.
Javier finished third individually, just behind Florida State’s Tyler Weaver and Western Kentucky’s Anders Larson. Larson shot a 6-under 66 to win the event. Javier carded a 1-over 73 in the final round, contributing to his overall score. His performance included an eagle, 11 birdies, and strong play on par 4s and par 5s, averaging 3.97 and 4.67 respectively.
Walker Wise matched his career-low round with a 3-under 69 as an individual, climbing 44 spots to finish tied for 58th. Wise recorded six birdies in the final round, placing him tied for 16th in birdies overall. Southern Miss ended the tournament with a team score of 11-over 875, trailing Florida State, which finished at 8-under.
Senior Supakorn Amornchaichan tied for fifth place after shooting an even 72, his third round of par or better. Jake Moffitt and Benjamin Fernandez each shot 1-over 73, with Moffitt finishing tied for 30th and Fernandez tied for 45th. Tommy Latter also competed, tying for 58th with a 6-over 78.
