Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Finishes Regular Season at NOLA Classic
ELMWOOD, La. — Southern Miss Beach Volleyball completed its regular season with a split at the NOLA Classic on Saturday. The Golden Eagles defeated ULM 4-1 but fell to Tulane 3-2, according to team officials.
Southern Miss finished with a 14-18 overall record and a 4-1 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. The win over ULM secured the No. 3 seed for the Golden Eagles in next week’s Sun Belt Championship in Foley, Alabama. They will face the Warhawks in the tournament’s opening round on Thursday, April 23.
In the match against ULM, Southern Miss won four of six flights. Laurel Dennis and Sadie McAda secured the win in top flight, dropping the first set but rallying to win the third. Zuzanna Michalska and Abby Lewis earned a straight-set victory at the second flight. Giovanna Gurgel Bahia and Kitija Martini Adamsone completed the sweep with a come-from-behind win at the third flight.
Against Tulane, Southern Miss fought hard but fell short. The Green Wave edged the Golden Eagles 3-2, with Tulane winning the decisive third set at the top flight. Southern Miss’s wins came from Corcoz and Do at the fourth flight and Grigoreva and Thomas at the fifth, both in straight sets. Tulane’s Katherine Hansen and Emma Morris won at the second flight, and Molly Trodd and Skyler Ensign clinched the victory at the top flight with a third-set win.
Southern Miss will meet ULM again in the first round of the Sun Belt Championship next Thursday. The tournament will be held in Foley, Alabama, with the Golden Eagles seeking their first win in the series against the Warhawks this season.
