Southern Miss Baseball to Face Nicholls in Biloxi
The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team will play at Keesler Federal Ballpark in Biloxi on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Golden Eagles are scheduled to face Nicholls in their only visit to the Gulf Coast this season, according to school officials.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and can be heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network. Tickets are available online for purchase. Southern Miss enters the game with a 16-4 record and remains ranked in the top 25 in major polls, including No. 11 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and No. 12 by D1Baseball.com.
This will be the 22nd game at Keesler Federal Ballpark for Southern Miss, which holds a 14-7 record there. The team has played three Conference USA tournaments at the venue since 2017, winning titles in 2018 and 2019 and finishing as runner-up in 2017. The Eagles are looking to avenge a 3-2 loss to Nicholls earlier this month at Pete Taylor Park.
Southern Miss has played Nicholls four times in Biloxi since 2017, holding a 2-1 record in those matchups. Senior center fielder Joey Urban leads the team with a .360 batting average, seven home runs, and 21 RBIs. Fellow seniors Kyle Morrison, Seth Smith, and Davis Gillespie also contribute offensively, with batting averages of .338, .327, and .313, respectively.
Freshman right-hander Dylan Causey will start for the Eagles. He has a 0-0 record and a 0.00 ERA this season. Nicholls will counter with junior right-hander Dawson Richard, who is 2-0 with a 3.78 ERA. Following Tuesday’s game, Southern Miss will return home to host Troy in a three-game Sun Belt series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. at Pete Taylor Park.
