Southern Miss Baseball shuts out Nicholls 4-0 in Biloxi

The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team, ranked No. 12, defeated Nicholls State 4-0 Tuesday night at Keesler Federal Park in Biloxi, Mississippi. The Golden Eagles limited the Colonels to just four hits in the game, marking their second shutout of the season.

Eight different Southern Miss pitchers combined to hold Nicholls scoreless. Starter Dylan Causey pitched one inning, allowing two hits, before being relieved by Bruce Littleton, Camden Sunstrom, Teague Broadhead, JW Armistead, Colby Allen, Josh Och, and Camden Clark. The Colonels managed only five baserunners after the first inning, with two singles and three walks.

Littleton issued two walks in the second inning and was replaced by Sunstrom, who retired all eight batters he faced, including three strikeouts, to earn the win and improve to 2-1. The Golden Eagles scored in each middle inning to secure the victory. Ben Higdon drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Kyle Morrison contributed two doubles and an RBI in the fifth, while Seth Smith added an RBI on a fielder’s choice in the sixth. Gray Eubanks capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly later in the sixth.

Nicholls starter Dawson Richard, who fell to 2-1, pitched five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Southern Miss is scheduled to host Troy on Friday at Pete Taylor Park for the first game of a three-game Sun Belt series. The game is set for 6 p.m.
