Southeastern Louisiana beats Southern Miss 11-3 in midweek softball game

HAMMOND, La. — Southern Miss softball lost to Southeastern Louisiana 11-3 in six innings Wednesday at North Oak Park. The Lady Lions scored in every inning and recorded 13 hits to improve to 19-9 overall, with a 3-0 record in Southland Conference play, according to game sources.

Hallie Burns earned the win for Southeastern, improving to 6-3. Madilyn Graham took the loss for Southern Miss, dropping to 5-2, as reported by game officials. Hannah Christian led the Golden Eagles with two hits, one of five players on the team to register a hit. Carrie Green and Jolie Hays each drove in one run for Southern Miss.

Southeastern Louisiana jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the first inning on sacrifice flies, with one run unearned due to a Golden Eagle error. Southern Miss responded in the second with a RBI single by Green, but Southeastern added another run later that inning, extending the lead to 3-1. The Lady Lions then scored two runs in each of the third, fifth, and sixth innings, ultimately sealing the victory.

Southern Miss’s Hannah Christian hit the team’s first extra-base hit of the game with a ground-rule double in the sixth inning. Despite the effort, Southeastern used a two-RBI single to end the game via run rule with one out in the sixth. The Golden Eagles will host Louisiana this weekend for their Sun Belt Conference opener, with games scheduled for Friday through Sunday.
