Pickens’s Grand Slam Leads Ole Miss Softball Past ULM 5-1
OXFORD, Miss. — Mackenzie Pickens hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning, helping Ole Miss secure a 5-1 win over ULM on Sunday at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.
The Rebels (16-5) built an early lead and maintained it with strong pitching and timely hitting. Emilee Boyer pitched a complete game, allowing just one run and striking out eight to earn the victory. She retired the first 11 batters before ULM broke up her no-hit bid in the fifth inning.
Ole Miss opened the scoring in the second inning. Taylor Malvin singled, and after a walk to Grace Thompson, Taylor Roman singled to load the bases. Malvin then scored on an RBI single by Malvin, giving the Rebels a 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Roman singled, and walks to Thompson and Malvin loaded the bases for Pickens. The sophomore launched a pitch over the left-field wall, clearing the bases and increasing the lead to 5-0.
The Warhawks (13-9) scored a solo home run in the seventh inning but could not mount a comeback. Boyer responded with a resilient performance, closing out the game with a strikeout to seal the victory. The Rebels will continue their homestand Tuesday, hosting UT Martin in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. CT, both games streamed on SEC Network Plus.
